Macrogol (Laxido, Movicol, CosmoCol) is the first-line laxative recommended by NICE for chronic constipation. It works by drawing water into the bowel, softening stools and making them easier to pass. It’s gentle, effective and doesn’t cause dependency. Also used at higher doses to treat faecal impaction.
