What does the appointment involve?

A Bahrain visa medical generally involves the following. This reflects Bahrain's current requirements as far as we know today.

  • Examination: Full physical exam including respiratory and cardiovascular auscultation, general appearance, blood pressure and pulse, height/weight, ECG, colour vision, visual acuity, mental status exam

  • Bloods: HIV, Hepatitis B (HBsAg), Hepatitis C, syphilis (VDRL); routine serology and haematology. Additional charge, confirmed at consultation.

  • Chest X-ray: For TB screening. Referred to our imaging partner; additional charge.

  • Other tests: ECG, colour vision test, urinalysis (sugar, albumin, blood), mental status examination

  • Vaccinations: Polio vaccination mandatory for applicants from a polio-reporting country; MMR mandatory for expatriates from an MMR-endemic area

  • The report: Completed on the destination's own form, an embassy template, or a covering report we draft, with all signatures and stamps included.

Is there anything else I should know?

  • Requirements and forms are your responsibility. Visa medical requirements change and embassies do not always announce it, so you must check the current requirements directly with the Bahrain embassy or High Commission in London, obtain the correct forms, and satisfy yourself that you have exactly what your application needs. We will help wherever we can, but confirming what Bahrain requires is yours to do.

  • Validity and turnaround are commonly quoted by clinics rather than stated on the LMRA form, so treat any figures as indicative only.

  • LMRA allows this form to be completed at a hospital or medical centre in countries without an approved Wafid centre; please check with your employer that this applies to you. Everyone on a work permit is also examined again at an authorised centre in Bahrain after arrival.

What does Bahrain ask for?

Bahrain's Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) asks for a medical before arrival from anyone coming to work on a work permit. Dependant visas do not need one. In countries without an approved Wafid medical centre, the LMRA form can be completed at a hospital or medical centre of your choice. The form covers an ECG, vision, blood pressure, a chest X-ray, a urine and stool check, and blood tests for HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and syphilis (VDRL), and it is signed and stamped. After you arrive, Bahrain also examines you again at an authorised centre, booked through your employer. Requirements and forms can change, so please check the current requirements and form with your employer, the LMRA or your agent before you book.

Questions, answered.

What should I bring?

Complete Sections 1 to 3 of the Non Wafid form with the examining doctor's signature, declaration and stamp (the form asks for a hospital stamp, so please check with your employer that ours is accepted); chest X-ray often arranged separately at extra cost; bring passport, photo, employer details and job title.

Is there an official form?

The destination's official page sets out the current requirement and form:

Please make sure it is the current form for your visa category before your appointment; confirming that is your responsibility.
