  • A doctor every time
  • Today, every day.

What does the appointment involve?

A Barbados visa medical generally involves the following, based on Barbados's current requirements as we understand them today.

  • Examination: Completed Medical Form R1, including an external chest X-ray, submitted in report form

  • Chest X-ray: Form R1 says the chest X-ray report must come from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados or the Adviser on Chest Diseases, so please check with the Immigration Department before arranging an X-ray.

  • The report: Completed on the destination's own form, an embassy template, or a covering report we draft, with all signatures and stamps included.

Is there anything else I should know?

  • Requirements and forms are your responsibility. Visa medical requirements change and embassies do not always announce it, so you must check the current requirements directly with the Barbados embassy or High Commission in London, obtain the correct forms, and satisfy yourself that you have exactly what your application needs. We will help wherever we can, but confirming what Barbados requires is yours to do.

  • Part of this process may need to be completed in the destination country; we complete the UK part.

  • Check with the authority handling your application whether the examining doctor must be registered in Barbados.

What does Barbados ask for?

Barbados asks for its Medical Form R1 with long-term work permit applications (permits of up to three years). It is not listed for short-term permits. The form has a medical history section that you sign, and a physical examination that includes vision, hearing, blood pressure and a urine test. The form says chest X-ray reports are only accepted from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital radiology department or the Adviser on Chest Diseases in Barbados, so please check where your X-ray must be done before arranging one. A Medical Referee in Barbados adds the final conclusion. Requirements and forms can change, so please check the current requirements and form with the Barbados Immigration Department or your agent before you book.

Questions, answered.

What should I bring?

Needed only for long-term (up to 3-year) work permits. Download Form R1 and bring it to the appointment. Form R1 says the chest X-ray report must come from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados or the Adviser on Chest Diseases, so please check before arranging one. Confirm with the Barbados Immigration Department that a UK-based doctor's completion is accepted.
