In brief…

Atomoxetine (formerly Strattera) is a selective noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) - the most established non-stimulant ADHD medication. Unlike stimulants, it works continuously (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) once at steady state, including mornings before you’ve taken a dose and evenings when stimulants have worn off. It takes 3-6 weeks to reach full effect, so it requires patience, but for the right patient it provides smooth, round-the-clock symptom control.

Safety information

Driving & machinery

May affect ability to drive. Dizziness, drowsiness, and visual disturbances have been reported. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.

Age restriction

Methylphenidate/lisdexamfetamine: children 6 and over, and adults. Atomoxetine: children 6 and over, and adults. Guanfacine: children 6-17 (MR formulation). All must be initiated by a specialist in ADHD.

Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place. Keep out of reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
