Fusidic acid (Fucidin) is a topical antibiotic effective against the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that cause impetigo, infected eczema and minor wound infections. It’s one of the most prescribed topical antibiotics in the UK. Use short courses only (maximum 2 weeks) to prevent antibiotic resistance developing.

Varies by product. Emollients: all ages. Topical steroids: appropriate potency for age. Tacrolimus: from age 2. Retinoids: generally from age 12.
