Fluoxetine (originally branded as Prozac) is the SSRI that started a revolution in mental health treatment. It has a uniquely long half-life, which means it's more forgiving if you miss a dose and causes fewer withdrawal symptoms when stopping. It's also the antidepressant of choice in younger people.

Safety information

Driving & machinery

May cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision, especially in the first few weeks. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.

Age restriction

Adults 18 and over for depression. Fluoxetine is licensed from age 8 for moderate-to-severe depression under specialist supervision. Other SSRIs are not recommended under 18 for depression.

Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place. Keep out of reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
