Alendronic acid is the most commonly prescribed osteoporosis treatment in the UK. One tablet weekly strengthens your bones by slowing down the cells that break bone down. It significantly reduces the risk of hip, spine and wrist fractures. The trick is taking it correctly. Calcium and vitamin D supplements are the foundation of osteoporosis prevention and treatment. They ensure your body has the raw materials it needs to build and maintain strong bones. Usually prescribed alongside a bisphosphonate like alendronic acid, or on their own for people at risk of deficiency.
