Codeine is a mild opioid painkiller used for moderate pain that hasn't responded to paracetamol or NSAIDs. It's one of the most commonly prescribed opioids in the UK and is effective for short-term pain management. Like all opioids, it needs to be used carefully.

Driving & machinery

Causes significant impairment of driving ability. It is an offence to drive with certain controlled drugs above specified limits. Do not drive or operate machinery during treatment.

Age restriction

Codeine: adults and children over 12 only (not under 12 for any indication). Tramadol: adults 18 and over. Morphine/oxycodone: adults 18 and over. Use lowest effective dose for shortest duration in elderly.

Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place. Keep out of reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
